Abstract of Thesis

ABSTRACT Yusman. 2012. Utilization of the Language Laboratory of Multimedia in Teaching the Skill of Speaking on Tenth Grades at State Senior High School 1 Malang. Thesis, Departement of Arabic literature, Faculty of letters, State University of Malang. Advisors: (I). Drs. M. Syatibi Nawawi, M.Pd., (II). Dr. Yusuf Hanafi, M.Fil.I Keywords: Teaching, language laboratory of multimedia, speaking. Teaching the skill of speaking needs language laboratory of multimedia as a media to support it. By using multimedia of learning, users will be directly invited to try dan use stimulation which is available, and users will also directly try to how something happens. It is different if subject matter is explained through the books. This research is aimed to: (1) How the utilization of the language laboratory of multimedia in teaching the skill of speaking at State Senior High School 1 Malang; (2) How the effectiveness of utilization of the language laboratory of multimedia in teaching the skill of speaking at State Senior High School 1 of Malang. This research uses qualitative descriptive research. This subject research are tenth graders, arabic teachers, and the laboratory assistants. The research instrument that used is observation guidance, interview guidance, test, questionnaire, and documentation. Steps of the data analysis is done by: (1) data collecting; (2) data reduction; (3) data presentation, and (4) conclusing. The results of the research shows that language laboratory of multimedia was used in teaching the skill of speaking, and used once in a week. The facility that used in teaching the skill of speaking in language laboratory of multimedia are includes home theatre, television and paraboles, and mic wireless clip on. By completeness of the facility that available in the language laboratory of multimedia, students feel more comfort and calm to learn Arabic in the laguage laboratory of multimedia than learn in the classroom. The subject matter that conveyed is in variation begin from videos playback/movies, power point, television program till conversation exercise. Language laboratory of multimedia can increase the learning motivation and students' achievement in comprehending the subject matter. Moreover, the results of the test shows that there are progress for students in learning Arabic. Though students' learning motivation are increase, the use of media in increasing students' learning result are not maximum yet. This is proved by existence of limited the use of home theatre. Moreover, obstacle which is known, that is, the difficulty in operating the device. Thus, the maintainer of langauge laboratory of multimedia in order to continue to maintain and develop facilities which is available, while Arabic instructor, teacher, and tentor in order to maintain by using the language laboratory of multimedia as a learning media.
